South Africa has a number of helplines that aim to support people. Here are a few that may be useful to your or your friends at some point.

Childline ( 0800 055 555 ) has trained counselors provide information, support and assistance to often desperate children and their families.

Lifeline offers a number of telephone counselling services in many areas covering trauma, relationship issues and general counselling.

Alcoholics Anonymous SA is a worldwide fellowship for alcoholics supporting those choosing to be sober. Only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.
